On the eighth November, we had our final meeting till 2nd Wednesday in February. We welcome new members and guests. Come and benefit from the club’s guest speakers, garden rambles and the corporate of individuals with an interested in gardening.

At our current meeting, we had an fascinating talk about Bromeliads. Alan bought alongside some of his assortment and the members were in a position to purchase a few of his interesting vegetation. In fact, he had nothing to take house.

For a feature plant in a shady or sheltered space within the backyard or even for indoors, you cannot look previous the Bromeliad. All arising from the same household (Bromeliaceous) there are a broad range of bromeliads to select from.

They provide great foliage color and form to the backyard, can grow in timber and even produce fruit! Easy to develop and propagate they are a should have for the avid or beginner gardener… They like full solar, common watering, properly drained/sandy soil, and are suitable for all climatic zones.

Choose a spot in the garden that receives filtered sun and has well-drained soil. In poorly drained areas, create an elevated mound for free-draining soil or chunky orchid combine. Dig a gap in the ready mounds the identical dimension as the foundation ball.

Holding the main body of the plant with one hand, gently backfill the outlet, pushing the soil underneath and across the roots in order that the plant is sitting high on the mound. If the plant is unstable, you ought to use some supports similar to stones or pots to hold it upright while its roots settle in.

Water in nicely. Ensure that  Galston District Garden Club  place some water into the central a part of the plant, as that is the place they draw in additional moisture as properly. Food every spring and autumn with Dynamic lifter soil improver and plant fertiliser by making use of across the root zone and water in well.

Our conferences are on the 2nd Wednesday of the Month at 37 Arcadia Rd, Galston the Community Hall at 7.00pm. Our subsequent meeting will be in February 2024. For data regarding our Club please visit our web site: www.galstongardenclub.com.au or email: [email protected]
